Artist Statement

Drawing allows me to visually record events and communicate with the outside world. I use my practice to document things that are delicate, invisible, or vanishing, such as feelings, memories, and so on. This kind of creation reflects my observations and thoughts about the universe and life. I am afraid of losing and forgetting, and drawing can help me retain these things, emotions, and memories.

My artwork is generally in black and white with intricate brushstrokes, thin lines, and dots. I use details and complicated textures to express abstract things that cannot be seen or described in words, which serves as a more emotional release for me.

Combining drawing and printmaking is my regular method of creation; printmaking may copy objective things but can also be subjectively adjusted with special methods. The landscapes that I observe in my life are the subjects of my artwork as well as the carriers of my feelings and memories. I use fine lines on zinc plates to sketch mountains in my memory, which have been subjectively processed by my brain. I have also blurred the boundaries between drawings and pictures of camphor trees in my hometown by subjectively processing the photographs with the image transfer method.

The majority of my drawing practice is based on classic drawing approaches in order to develop new ways of presenting and to experiment with new drawing techniques. I believe that subjective consciousness in drawing and my brushes can represent sentiments, phenomena, and things that are not easy to observe, which stems from my own extensive experience, empathy, and observation of life and emotions.
